The Jewish News/BICOM Balfour Centenary Conference – 2 November 2017
Head of Israel-Jewish Congress: Balfour would be ‘proud’ of UK-Israel ties
Vladimir Sloutsker was invited to speak at The Jewish News/BICOM’ 3rd annual UK event “Britain, Israel & The Middle East: 100 Years since the Balfour Declaration” was held in Westminster in November. The event discussed the causes and consequences of the Balfour Declaration 100 years after Britain issued the statement supporting the creation of a Jewish national home, as well as the current challenges and future opportunities in the region including what comes after ISIS, the Syrian civil war and hopes for an Israeli-Palestinian peace deal. The event brought together top speakers from the UK, Israel and the US to address an audience of policy makers, journalists and diplomats, think tank representatives from around the world.
Mr Sloutsker’s speech stated that Balfour would be proud of the UK and Israel’s ties today, emphasising the UK’s role as Israel’s largest trading partner in Europe. Mr Sloutsker also drew attention to the importance of Israel, not just as an important business partner, but also as an important ally in protecting democratic values globally.
Special Celebration Marking the Centenary of the Jewish Community of Madrid – 21 October 2017
At the invitation of Mr David Hatchwell, the President of the Jewish Community of Madrid, Mr Sloutsker spoke at the Community’s historic Centenary event. The event marked one hundred years of the Community’s work “making sure that Jewish life in Spain thrives” in Madrid. Mr Sloutsker emphasised his admiration for the Jewish community in Madrid as a model and source of inspiration of commitment to Jewish life, Zionism and a strong connection to Israel.
World Zionist Conference – 20-22 October 2017
Theodor Herzl founded the World Zionist Organization in 1897 to unify Jewish communities across Europe and to promote a Jewish state. The congress brings together some 2,000 international Zionist activists to debate and influence Israeli policy. Today the WZO includes members from all over the world and works to promote Israel in both business and political spheres. This year’s conference, held with the Zionist Federation of the UK, is “’Boycotts & Sanctions – The New Antisemitism’: European Conference for Countering Antisemitism marking 100 years since the Balfour Declaration,” in response to concerns about an “increase in anti-Semitism and anti-Israel bias” in the UK and beyond.
UN gathering Ambassadors Against BDS – 29 Mar 2017
The World Jewish Congress and Israel’s Permanent Mission hosted over 2,000 dignitaries, public officials, diplomats and representatives of Non-Governmental Organisation at the for the second Ambassadors Against BDS summit. The opening session of the annual conference was held in the iconic General Assembly Hall of the United Nations headquarters in New York. Israel’s permanent representative to the United Nations, Danny Danon, welcomed the participants of the summit, which brought representatives together to argue against the case of the boycott, divestment, and sanctions movement, as well as anti-Israel bias. The conference focused upon BDS on both social and digital media, campuses around the world and the public sector.
Israeli Jewish Congress (Hakhel) Gathering and Solidarity – 21 -23 June 2015
Approximately 30 leaders from Jewish communities all over Europe assembled for “A Time for Action”, the fifth Israeli Jewish Congress (Hakhel) Gathering and Solidarity Mission to Israel of senior European Jewish leaders. Those gathered discussed the issues of Anti-Semitism, the boycott, divestment, and sanctions movement, and the delegitimization of Israel. The IJC also hosted the 4th Trilateral Dialogue, an initiative the IJC and Jewish Federations of North America started to bring Jewish leaders from across Europe, North America and Israel together to discuss the implementation of effective measure against BDS and Anti-Semitism throughout the world.
Global Forum for Combating Anti-Semitism – 28-30 May 2013

The 4th Global Forum for Combating anti-Semitism was held at the Ramada Hotel in Jerusalem. 500 guests from around the world, including religious leaders, representatives of various governments and civil society activists attended. A recorded speech by Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu was broadcast, in addition to speeches by Ze’ev Elkin, Deputy Foreign Minister and Naftali Bennett, Economics Minister & Minister of Diaspora Affairs. Ten working groups along with a variety of expert speakers convened with a view to creating a plan to combat anti-Semitism including anti-Semitism on the internet and in Social Media; in the Moslem and Arab world and on university campuses.
